Bookmarking Options Compare Delicious Alternatives

Rumors have been floating about that Yahoo will shut down delicious. Delicious has responded that they are NOT shutting it down, they are trying to sell it.

However, the future of company is less than certain and what direction any new acquirer will take is unknown (if there is a buyer at all).

Exporting/Backing Up Your Data From Delicious

There are many ways to do this.

• Delicious' Built In Export (Settings->Export/Backup) exports to HTML
• Export to XML from Browser: 'https://{your username}:{your password}@api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all' (right click and save as XML)
• Export using curl to XML: 'curl https://{your username}:{your password}@api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all > bookmarks.xml'

Delicious Alternatives

There are many social bookmarking services and note taking services that can help fill the void. None really seem to cover every feature delicious had.

Functionally, Pinboard.in is probably the closest and has a Delicious Co-Founder, Peter Gadjokov, on board.

The major difference: it's paid only and the price increases as users sign up (yesterday it was as low as $6.94 and 24 hours later costs $8.44). It also doesn't have any browser extensions or a nice UI.
